Kathy Moyd 10/22/2016 4:37 PMI am pleased to say I deposited the less-than 1 cubic foot of non-recyclable garbage I collected since the challenge started in the bin. Thanks to Rose Villa's dining service's use of composting and reusable take-out containers, I had one mini-jam container from eating in the dining room and the lids of two small take-out containers.
Thanks to Joy's post on NextDoor, I discovered that the clear plastic take-out/delivery containers used by restaurants and any other plastics with numbers will be recycled by New Seasons. -
Kathy Moyd 10/15/2016 1:44 PMSome of the good things I couldn't pick because I'm already doing them are washing clothes in "tap cold water", composting, turning off lights, using reusable water bottles, using public transit, and spending a lot of my time volunteering for the Citizens' Climate Lobby. -
Kathy Moyd 10/14/2016 11:55 PMI had selected the one on checking on sustainable seafood. At today's Green Committee meeting I suggested someone else might want to do it and present the results to the group. She has already confirmed that the fish in today's special is OK. -

Kathy Moyd 10/11/2016 4:14 PMI posted a notice about the EcoChallenge and the Rose Villa Team to NextDoor (an app facilitating neighborhood communication), had an e-mail sent to each resident on the e-mail list and put a hard copy version in everyone's mail box. (i didn't find out till later that I could have gotten a list of those who want hard copies, so I could have saved paper.) -
Kathy Moyd 9/30/2016 3:46 PMI sent a reminder to the members of the Rose Villa retirement community to join; only four have joined so far. I told them it could be as simple as agreeing to meet one new person per day (under Community). Rose Villa just finished a major reconstruction, so there are a lot of new residents along with old timers. So this would be a good community activity for us. -
Kathy Moyd 9/25/2016 10:32 AMI live in the Rose Villa retirement community near Portland, OR. Our Green Committee decided to enter Rose Villa in the Eco-Challenge and I am the Team Captain.
One of my concerns is how to include residents who aren't connected to the Internet but are willing to participate. -
Kathy Moyd 9/24/2016 9:54 AMJust set up a team for the Rose Villa retirement community and invited the members of the Green Team to join.
