Two weeks! Not so bad on the eating local, recycle/reduce/reuse!

I love the $0.25 discount that coffee shops give on my reusable cup! I've had mine for almost a year and it's a fancy barista-designed reusable cup for lattes, cappuccinos, etc. It may have cost me $15, but in the long run, I'm saving way more than that monetarily--and environmentally!

Having fun, sad to see this is almost over! I'll definitely be glad to eat a larger variety of food come next week--harvest time is not tough to eat local, but I'm ready for some french cheeses and scotch!

You know what's great about cooking ahead? Leftovers! If you make a bunch of food from local sources, you don't even have to cook the next day to STILL eat local.

Couldn't agree more! I made soup last night using ingredients I got from the farmers market on Sunday and that's what I brought for lunch at work and will probably eat for the rest of the week! lol

Another day down! This time: more garden fresh food. I tried my hand at Indian food today, complete with several veggies from my garden for navratan korma. Delicious!

Keeping it moving! Had some food today that was from outside of our 100 mile radius, but it was a family member's birthday--hard to really plan around that when someone is making you food. I did have some garden-grown zucchini from my own back yard though with dinner though--yay hyperlocal!

With the election right around the corner, I've both given to and shared my support on social media for two campaigns: the Outdoor School  for All initiative and the Yes on Affordable Homes initiative here in Portland. Outdoor school and going to camp are two of the more formative pieces of my childhood. I firmly believe giving EVERY child the chance to spend a week in nature and away from home broadens horizons in a way that everyday schooling just can't replicate. My love for the outdoors certainly expanded during those weeks. And while it's far from a cure-all, 26-179 addresses one of the core issues with our lack of affordable housing stock for our most vulnerable fellow citizens. Both are important to me, and sharing that message opens dialogue for discussions that I look forward to having.

I have been using Car2Go for work for the past six months and love it. It's a great alternative to driving to and from work just because you have a meeting across town. Parking and gas, in addition to costing roughly $15/day versus a bus pass that costs $100 for the month, drive up the C02 emissions and add congestion to the roads during peak hours. Both stink. I am working on a proposal to streamline access to Car2Go through the bank and encourage my colleagues to use it as well. Parking is free and an even an hour rental costs less than driving and parking for the day. Hope I can get some colleagues to join me and this proposal should help!
