Mike Mercer 10/27/2016 8:23 AMBread heels! Our freezer has five or six bread bags with one or two heels. This morning I looked up multiple solutions to use them as human food vs food for the crows and jays. After examining the options, I went with crow and jay feed. -
Mike Mercer 10/25/2016 10:51 AMGonna have some leftovers for lunch. Now if I could just find a way to turn all those acorns outside into something tasty! As it is, they'll just become compost.

Mike Mercer 10/21/2016 8:35 AMHad birthday dinner with Laura last night. Had two or three small corn torillias left over and my first instinct was just to leave them. Asked for foil (conflicted again) to take them home. Funny thing they brought 5 or more torillas with the foil. Guess they misunderstood or thought we REALLY liked them? -
Mike Mercer 10/20/2016 10:03 AMMy primary focus has been not simply to compost my food waste, but rather reduce what I have to compost. Not sure I want to make a casserole or the like out of beet skins and apple seeds, but I am working hard to have fewer food items go bad that then need to be composted. -
Mike Mercer 10/18/2016 3:59 PMYesterday, I took some old mealy apples from the back of the refer and went online (Britannica was never this useful) to figure out what to do with old apples. Whala, applesauce. Was find of fun and made a great and tasty start to my day. -
Mike Mercer 10/16/2016 8:59 PMFriday night had some stir fry leftovers for a pre dinner dip with crackers. Pretty tasty. On Sat dinner, we (although a bit risky) used some old pickled cucumbers on the salmon we got from Cascade Locks. Actually they were pretty good. The salmon, fresh from the columbia was awesome -
Mike Mercer 10/03/2016 12:16 PMHad a great "garbage" frittata yesterday morning. Nothing like using veggies on their last legs in a cooked meal.-
