  • Hard to believe it's the last day! I plan to try and keep up my no spending challenge for a few more weeks!

  • Wrapping up the challenge with a classic Portland bike commute, where I leave the house without rain pants, regret that decision within half a mile, but it's not raining quite hard enough to pull over and put them on. End up at work soggy but happy to be out there in the weather and biking!

A great fall bike ride to work today!

  • Day 6 and I have only bought one thing, somewhat inadvertently. I have also been loving how other people's feed posts have inspired me to do other things too -- like take shorter showers.

So far so good! I've made it 3 full days, including a weekend, without buying a single thing other than groceries. Halloween is about to throw a wrench in my Challenge though, because a well-meaning neighbor found the costume my 4.5 year old wanted at Goodwill and picked it up for us, and I have to pay her back when I pick it up, but if that's the only thing I have to buy I'll consider it a major success!

  • My challenge is to not buy anything other than necessary groceries, and my coffee maker (ie my husband) is traveling for work, so my solution was to swing by the coffee shop on the way to my kids school - but then I realized "that won't work! I can't buy coffee, because it's Day 1 of the EcoChallenge!" So I made coffee in my reusable mug and zipped my wallet into a small pocket in my bag to make it harder to access to remind me of my Challenge!

A little nature hike to kick off the week. I gave Aiden (age 4.5) an old digital camera and he loved taking nature photos as we walked -- and it gave him a little extra incentive to keep hiking!

  • I just signed up for a "Drive Less Challenge" for Oct 1-15, so that combined with the EcoChallenge will make October a month of action for me!

  • I am excited to get started with my EcoChallenge!
