We've actually been doing this challenge action for about a month.  This should translate into a 55 kWh reduction in our electric use for October (19% of our average October usage).  The big deal about this is that it should have a major dent on the gap between our average production from the PVs and our consumption.  Right now our annual consumption varies from 42 to 50 per cent of our consumption.  With this simple practice on-site production would be around 60% of consumption, making it far less costly to add additional to close the gap.

The big issue about hanging clothes up to dry rather is wrinkled clothing.  While this isn't much of an issue with many pieces of clothing, it is with some.  Any ideas that anyone has for getting wrinkles out of clothes without using the drier would be much appreciated.  Yes there is always an iron.

I'd always assumed that hanging clothes up in the basement is a bad idea due to the humidity.  My wife hung a load up yesterday that dried fairly quickly.  Probably has something to do with the laundry room being next to the furnace.

Addendum - My wife was quick to remind me that she has often hung up a few clothes in basement and that I just wasn't paying attention.

Actually this is week 2 of not using the dryer.  A clothes pole under the deck cover and a clothes line in the mudroom worked pretty well given that we were just hammered by the dregs of a cyclone.  The clothes took longer to dry but smelled better at the the end.

The challenge here is to continue for the next two weeks what we've already been doing for two weeks.
