Danielle Evans 10/14/2016 10:21 PMI have a new home that has completely new energy efficient windows and high R-value insulation, plus energy saving hot water tanks and kitchen appliances, as well as a geothermal heat pump with radiant floor heat in concrete on the ground floor. This also enables us to avoid using air conditioning in the summer because it stays cooler. We compost, recycle, and raise chickens and grow a garden. Additionally, we donate items no longer needed and use what can't be donated or recycled for other uses in our home. Our garbage equals about one large kitchen bag of garbage per month, for a family of 3 adults. We all use reusable cups, water bottles, and take our lunches in reusable containers and coolers/thermal bags, in addition to always using a reusable shopping bag or refusing bags and boxes if they are forgotten. I always have bags in my car, so if I forget, I just take the items in the cart to my car and load a bag in my car. We participate in and shop at our local farmer's markets when they are in session, and look for local produce and other food items whenever possible, including the milk we buy (Spokane Family Farms milk is the absolute best milk!!)-
Danielle Evans 10/19/2016 8:40 PMThanks Nancy! I took on a bunch of one-time challenges that I have already put into practice! As I mentioned, a lot of the practices we do around our home are very eco friendly and we try to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible. I didn't realize what a boost those were going to give to the team! I added a lot of challenges to myself, so I have a bunch more to accomplish I hope I can fulfill to put us really in the points!! -
