Traded for canned items with a friend. Fiber and hand-dyed yarn for apple cider and salsa. We can't all do it all, but we can stay local.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Stephania Fregosi 10/26/2016 8:59 AMThe only way to avoid disposables at the dining hall is to bring your own lunch or to order a small salad. At least my salad box was compostable! -

Stephania Fregosi 10/20/2016 12:07 PMThe pledge to not use any disposables gets tricky when going to other events. I find carrying around a cup, spork and a napking easy enough, but avoiding boxed lunches and plates at events, birthday parties and the like are tricky. The weekend was full of birthday parties. -
Stephania Fregosi 10/19/2016 2:14 PMI got a chance to get out to Santiam finally. And I got to check out the flock of sheep that was out there too.

Stephania Fregosi 10/19/2016 11:01 AMOne of the things I pledged was about sharing information about solar energy.
I did this through a purchase program; some of the non-profits that do it for free want more ideal conditions. Most people aren't going to cut down a tree to put in solar energy.
Rebates are coming from Energy Trust and there are state and federal tax incentives.
The system is 1.7 kW. It's not a huge installation - my house roof wasn't suitable, but we wanted to do what we could afford to do.
I think it will produce enough power to commute to work.
Having installed it in September, we got one really good month in before the rain hit and the array made around 200kWh of energy. Now it's fall and I expect it to go down for a while, but late spring and summer should be pretty fantastic. Note that 200 x 12 = 2.4 kW but the system is rated at 1.7. That is what we expect to get out of it annually and it's 15-20% of what we use.
