Anna Lopatina 10/28/2016 9:26 PMThis ecochallenge was a lot of fun!! It was a lot easier to stay away from meat than I thought.. However, not having any salmon was a bit of a struggle. I've been really wanting to meal prep and that's the first thing that comes to my mind aside from quinoa and various types of greens. I will continue to vote with my dollar as well as influence others to do the same. I love buying locally made stuff and going to co-op markets. (I think I definitely violated my rules when I ordered from Jet.com online though! The cat litter there is only 1/3 of the cost..) Aside from that I have improved a lot over the last couple weeks though:) It was rewarding spending the extra time outdoors. -
Anna Lopatina 10/28/2016 9:19 PM10/28 -- I have been very conservative with the amount of plastic baggy's I use when cleaning the kittens' litter boxes. Instead of using up to 3-4 little baggies a day, I use just one! As we are running low I was able to find ones made with bamboo, vegetable oils, and less plastic; I wish I could use all biodegradable but those are 10 times as expensive:/ -
Anna Lopatina 10/28/2016 9:05 PM10/27 -- I spent a lot of time at home decluttering on my day off. Found even more stuff do donate after going through a couple bins in my closet. It also turned out to be my best friends birthday (which I may have forgot), I asked where she wanted to go and as I mentioned the Vista House, she started describing that exact location. Turns out she's never been there although she's grown up in portland half of her life! What a beautiful evening it was. -
Anna Lopatina 10/28/2016 9:01 PM10/26 -- I was able to stay at campus all day, even though I had no idea the earlier classes were cancelled. This was the day I discovered the sustainable / reusable silverware PCC has to offer. Now I don't have to buy spoons / forks downstairs in the cafeteria. The sustainable one is 3 in 1. Fork, knife, and spoon. -
Anna Lopatina 10/25/2016 11:29 PM10/25 -- Tonight I decided to go to the gym regardless of how lazy I am feeling! I love to get a great workout in and be a bit sore for when I do yoga (tomorrow morning). I was also able to complete my ONE-TIME challenge earlier. I explored at least one new nature walk in my area. Hopefully I will be able to do a trail if it isn't too rainy this Friday:) -
Anna Lopatina 10/24/2016 5:25 PM10/24 -- Aside from today, it's been very hard to limit my trips to necessary ones. I figured I may as well go home since I was already halfway there after dropping off a package at UPS. This allowed me to play with my cat (I adopted about a month ago). Also, I was able to eat here, change into warmer pants, and update my blog:) -
Anna Lopatina 10/24/2016 5:19 PM10/23 -- Over the past week I have been closing my window more that way the heat doesn't constantly turn on at night. Instead of having it open half way (6-8 inches), I only crack it open about 1 inch now. In the dining/kitchen area, instead of just turning off the heat at night, I've only been using it while I am in there (cooking or cleaning). -
Anna Lopatina 10/22/2016 11:29 PM10/21 -- I have spent a lot of this week decluttering my room. Not only did I organize my clothes but in the process I was able to find some stuff to donate. Instead of my sweatshirts, shirts, and jeans just lying around someone will now be able to put them to use. I hope to find a community store that takes donations rather than just Goodwill. -
Anna Lopatina 10/22/2016 11:13 PMAs I turned the shower water in the morning, I ran to go grab my towel from my room. I noticed my kittens food dish was empty, however before feeding her I remembered to hurry and turn the shower water off. I was so quick that the water wasn't even hot yet, it was just warming up:) -
Anna Lopatina 10/20/2016 11:52 PMOver the past week or two I have been very conservative with the amount of water I waste in the shower while waiting for it to get hot. In the past, some of the times I would even turn it on and go wonder around my house for 2-3 minutes.. It's great that I am more aware!
