Alexander Lungershausen 10/28/2016 7:44 AMPeople I pass - A dog way too big: There is this jogger and her dog, a beautiful well kept shepherd, both weigh about the same. The owner is all geared up for running but I have never seen her move, the dog is totally in charge and does what it wants. Which reminds me of that Seinfeld joke where he ponders “Dogs are the leaders of the planet. If you see two life forms, one of them is making a poop, the other one is carrying it for him, who would you assume is in charge?" -
Alexander Lungershausen 10/27/2016 5:21 PMPeople that I pass - e-bikes:- Really?
- What would gravity think?
- They don't seem to hang around much - like they are being eaten somewhere or something.

Alexander Lungershausen 10/26/2016 12:38 PMPeople I pass - Andrea the nurse: There was this woman in scrubs that I was passing in the morning for years, always along the same road. At some point I ran into her during a visit at my doctors, introduced myself and chatted for a while. We now smile and wave when we pass each other. -
Alexander Lungershausen 10/25/2016 3:37 PMPeople I pass - Time Keepers: When you are out there passing the same people daily their presence or absence becomes part of your time management: The nurse walking to her clinic = I am 5 minutes early, passing the Rabbi in Hillsdale = I am 10 minutes late, Robert passing me after he dropped of his daughter = I am 20 minutes late, and so on. -
Alexander Lungershausen 10/24/2016 10:44 AMPeople I pass - Cheering crowd: There is this group of flip-flop (all weather) wearing high school students that wait for the bus near the top end of the Vermonster. They often break into a cheer when they see me approaching, probably related to the bus behind me that I am slowing down. -
Alexander Lungershausen 10/23/2016 9:20 PMMindful Radler - Signaling: This is one of my favorite ones (usually bad driving behavior comes in waves but this one has been pretty consistent). There seems to be the habit in the car community to switch the turn signal on right at the moment of the turn. It wouldn't be called a "signal" if it was not supposed to signal something, so PLEASE, it would be awesome if you are intending to turn, to start blinking about 100 feet out so that the bike rider next to you has a chance to adjust to your intentions. -
Alexander Lungershausen 10/22/2016 4:53 PMPeople I pass - my neighbor: and I decided last year when we were rebuilding the fence between us to leave one section out. Since then all our kids and many from the neighborhood see both our yards as one. As I am writing this I can hear 7 kids chasing each other - loudly. His wife commutes to work at the same time as I do.
It feels safer to share the road with your friends. -
Alexander Lungershausen 10/21/2016 5:12 PMPeople I pass - Stop, Drop, and ...: This is my third continent and I am clearly still getting used to things. A while back I was coming up to a school bus on the opposite lane. Realizing that it had its blinking lights on I slowed down to a crawl intending to slowly pass it.
What happened next was absolutely epic.
The drivers side window slammed open and I received the biggest chew-out of my life. WHATAREYOU THINKING. MYLIGHTSAREON. YOUNEEDTOSTOP. It went on for quite a while. The bus itself was even leaning into me as all the kids had switched to my side and were laughing their heads off.
When I see a blinking school bus these days I dive off my bike and play dead - its safer that way.-

Alexander Lungershausen 10/20/2016 4:58 PMPeople I pass - loud exit: When I get out right in front of the school bus on my route I pass this one apartment. The door is ajar at this point and when the family inside hears the school bus stop and honk a big explosion of shouts follows a kindergartner - struggling to get his jacket on, barely managing backpack, and water bottle - out the door as he races across the lawn to the bus. Once he reaches the bus the noise quickly subsides and it is all quiet again. -
