Amber Nobe 10/28/2016 12:32 PMI bought plane tickets to Denver for Thanksgiving, so I used a few different carbon calculators to estimate the impact (~1 ton) and then made the correlating donation to The Nature Conservancy's carbon offset program. There are calculators on the United Airlines website and through the Sierra Club. The results varied, so I averaged them. There are also several carbon offset programs out there, but I chose TNC because I am familiar with some of their habitat restoration projects in the Northwest.-

Amber Nobe 10/26/2016 1:30 PMAt the conference breakfast this morning, I overheard an interesting conversation about managing urban growth, public transit, and transportation infrastructure. My takeaway was that it's important to vote your support for environmental considerations on these issues, or those opinions won't be heard. There are several such issues on Portland Metro-area ballots this year! -

Amber Nobe 10/24/2016 8:25 PMThe other night I watched "Food, Inc." and while it didn't really share a lot that I didn't already know, it has helped me view my food options over the past few days a bit differently. Especially when traveling in another state, you realize that it's important to take advantage of the more local, healthy, and sustainable options available to us in Portland and advocate for them to be available to everyone -

Amber Nobe 10/21/2016 2:07 PMMaking up for yesterday's sick day with an extra-long walk and some one-time challenges. These bigger actions may require more effort but can also have a greater long-term impact -
Amber Nobe 10/19/2016 6:56 PMStill sick but had to get my walk in, so I went down to check out the blast site. Power is back on our end of the street, but south of Kearny is like a ghost town. Very strange. (Though Salt & Straw is serving ice cream via generator, and for once, there's no line.) Near the site, there's lots of runoff in the streets, and it smells like fireworks. I saw a few broken windows elsewhere but was surprised at how little damage there is, overall.
