Jenna Powers 10/25/2016 11:29 PMToday I was working at the Nike campus and had a chance to eat in the "Stands Cafe"! Everything there was locally sources and I was so excited. If huge companies like Nike are setting an example, we can reach more people in this desperate need for sustainable lifestyles. I took a couple pictures of the salad bar in excitement of sharing with you all! Over each item is not only the name of the item, but where in Oregon is came from. I thought it was a really great idea, and informs people of the importance of knowing where your food comes from. In an effort of cutting back on consumption, they also used reusable contains for the to-go items.

Jenna Powers 10/24/2016 11:05 PMI went to Sauvies Island with my church group and was so excited to come across the farm store! I bought local, jam and tones of fruits and veggies! These pairs I got are amazing! Im happy to be learning about local ways of purchasing fruits and veggies, but Id like to learn more about where to buy local meat, or at least learn how to find the original source of the meat. I was looking at the menu at the resturant I work at and the pork chops list where they are from. I was so excited to look up this farms location assuming it was local since it was advertised. Terms out ".... Farms" is just a slaughter house. I was pretty disappointed that this is what was listed on the menu. I am now going to start asking where meat products are sources from before I order or check out. -
Jenna Powers 10/20/2016 4:25 PMI signed up for PGE's sustainable energy plan! My energy will now be locally and naturally sourced! There is only a $4 increase to my monthly bill! Totally worth it and super simple to sign up! You can do it online and they often have booths at local events and markets! -
Jenna Powers 10/19/2016 11:32 PMThrough conspicuous consumption Ive been able to recognize an area in my life where I can reduce my consumption. This weekend I found an electric blanket at a rummage sale! Instead of using a lot of energy to heat my whole house, I can now stay warm using a fraction of the energy, -
Jenna Powers 10/16/2016 9:22 PMI just had a conversation with my roommate that we are going start the habit of flushing every other time we use the toilet! New habits! -
Jenna Powers 10/16/2016 9:18 PMBefore this challenge, I realized I was purchasing water out of the vending machine at school. Yesterday, I purchased a couple reusable water bottles at the goodwill I live close to. I used one today, and I actually found myself drinking more water. -
