Amy Puccini 10/28/2016 7:43 PMLast day of the challenge! I was excited to 100% today but forgot that we had already gotten seafood for dinner. I'm glad we got to participate in this challenge, i'm excited to see what sticks after as many of these things just feel like new habits. It feels good to know that we all did something together towards a common goal of bettering our planet. -
Amy Puccini 10/26/2016 12:41 PMSince my passion lies with food, I found the article in our NWEI books about food waste very sad. I know that I have been guilty myself when it comes to throwing out food, ordering too much or just not paying attention. This weekend we decided we are going to clean out our fridge and pantry, donating any food we can and sticking to a more strict meal plan throughout the week as well as making smaller portions and utilizing left overs. -
Amy Puccini 10/25/2016 5:38 PMThe challenge is getting easier, the more we learn in class the more excited I am to do something. It's also becoming a habit now so it doesn't feel like work. I think it's really cool that despite all the damage done to the iraqi marshlands, it was able to bounce back without our help so vibrantly. It makes me want to go and visit areas where I can help restore nature or help clean up areas. -
Amy Puccini 10/24/2016 9:35 PMToday I read about how much America consumes yet how protective we are over our own resources. I think one of the most important things is recognizing that this is a global issue. We're consuming and places like China are producing, both parties are at fault for the damage being done. The more I read about different issues the more I felt compelled to do something. I'm happy to be apart of this challenge! -
Amy Puccini 10/23/2016 5:53 PMThis challenge is easy in some aspects and somewhat daunting in others. During the week with everything else going on I find myself going on autopilot but on the weekend I get to actually plan around these new habits a little better. However the more I learn about the history of how everything started the more excited I am to do my part. -
Amy Puccini 10/20/2016 11:25 PMHalf way through and feeling pretty good so far. I've saved 56 gallons of water according to this thing, and my husband and I actually decided to change our routine when it came to doing laundry. We always used to do it every weekend as part of our general clean up the of the house but we decided were going to do fewer loads, only when we really need it to help save water that way too. -
Amy Puccini 10/17/2016 9:04 PMToday I read a little about the privatization of water and couldn't help to feel guilty that I hadn't already done more. I never thought about the fact that buying a bottle of water was basically saying we didn't care what comes out of the tap. Water should be a right to every single being and needs to be protected. Today I decided to give up plastic water bottles and purchased a glass water bottle. -
Amy Puccini 10/16/2016 4:05 PMI spent the day with some friends and got to share a little bit about this challenge while we were eating out! It definitely wasn't easy going for the vegetarian option when all I really wanted was a burger but it felt good to know that I was sticking to the plan. -
Amy Puccini 10/11/2016 9:35 AMI'm actually really excited for this challenge, I feel like this is a great way to develop some long term habits. Even though my husband isn't taking this class he is also excited to participate in these various challenges! We've already started doing some meal planning to make sure we don't waste any food and have also decided to go through our pantry and donate some canned/dry goods to the local food banks.
