I also have gotten into the habit of not using a bag if I forget my re usable bag. When I don't have that many items I just pay for them and then carry them out without a bag which I have found successful as well! 

In the beginning of this challenge it was very difficult to remember the reusable bag, but after continuously reminding myself I am able to remember them and stop using plastic bags!
