"I love being a part of the Greater Portland Sustainability Education Network. GPSEN has helped me connect with our community in so many ways. The EcoChallenge helps me do that, too. This year, I will focus on connecting with nature."

Kim Smith 10/28/2016 1:28 AMOh, my goodness! Here we are at the end of the EcoChallenge. It inspired such fun! And, I ended it with a bang. Beyond finishing the 300 minutes (and beyond) I committed to completing away from my computer, I did a completely new nature hike. Granted, no matter where I walked today, it would have been new, but I am so tickled that I went to the Maruyama Park, in Sapporo, Japan, and visited the Hokkaido Shrine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokkaid%C5%8D_Shrine. The fall leaves are stunning and there were many couples taking engagement and marriage pictures. An extra treat! -

Kim Smith 10/24/2016 9:01 PMPortland Community College Sylvania has beautiful hiking trails around the campus. My dog and I can attest. :) -
Kim Smith 10/23/2016 6:45 PMI love Simon and Garfunkel. I now officially have a "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme" garden! Yes, the song is stuck in my head. -
Kim Smith 10/22/2016 7:17 PMMany plants have been planted. I hope they thrive and take off next spring. -
Kim Smith 10/21/2016 6:29 PMI am glad that I listened to my intuition and stopped in at my local hardware store instead of heading straight back to my computer, after a meeting. Outdoor plants were 50% off! I was looking for some native shrubs to fill in some spots where plants didn't make it this summer and they had some great options. So, my outdoor time was spent browsing through plants, prepping my yard, and weeding. Goodness, I find such joy in weeding. And, it is SO much easier when the soil is damp and soft. -
Kim Smith 10/20/2016 3:58 PMI hope that carrying my cell phone during the walk doesn't count as screen time. I was able to use the time for a nice conversation with my mother, in addition to getting some exercise. -
Kim Smith 10/19/2016 9:36 PMReally needed the vibrant colors and fresh air before sitting down and viewing the debate. I should probably take another walk for more cleansing. -
