Rose Villa Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

One more day.  Darned sugar addiction really wrecked my completing my challenges.

I have been brushing my teeth without running the water since the 70s, so I could not choose this task.

I am pleased to say I deposited the less-than 1 cubic foot of non-recyclable garbage I collected since the challenge started in the bin. Thanks to Rose Villa's dining service's use of composting and reusable take-out containers, I had one mini-jam container from eating in the dining room and the lids of two small  take-out containers.

Thanks to Joy's post on NextDoor, I discovered that the clear plastic take-out/delivery containers used by restaurants and any other plastics with numbers will be recycled by New Seasons.

Most of my challenges are part of my life each day.  Isn't that the objective?  I just need to remember to log them!

Finally getting the sugar out of my diet, slowly, one day at a time.

I am already composting, turning off lights unless I need them, using cold water for washing machine, carrying my own reusable water holder, using recycled toilet paper, and so on.

Couldn't walk in the rain and wind, but enjoying the 3 things I'm grateful for every night.  Not sure if maple sugar counts as a refined sugar or not, so I didn't add that one today.

Some things I do that I can't register for since I already do them:
Only turn on lights when it's dark if I need to see something.  Then turn them off.
    Don't drive at all anymore.
Run my washing machine and dryer after I go to bed for the night.  I checked with my only neighbor and she doesn't hear it.
Run the dishwasher after midnight, and only when it's full.
Take the stairs to my 2nd floor apartment, instead of the elevator.
    No bottled water.
    No soda.
No fruit juice except cranberry, for medicinal reasons.  Otherwise eat the whole fruit.
No refined sugar except what comes in dry cereal.  I use Stevia. Less energy to produce it, and it doesn't metabolize into carbohydrates, so doesn't contribute to cancer growth.
Almost never use new paper in my printer.  More than enough used clean-on-one-side paper comes.
Never buy paper towels, Kleenex, or plastic bags for food storage or garbage disposal.
Don't use toothpaste.  Baking soda and peroxide work just fine.  I have been doing this since the 70s and I am 79 and have all but four teeth.
Use baking soda, vinegar and other natural cleaners for the house.
Buy only real food, nothing processed except mayonnaise, dry cereal and bread.  Maybe one day I'll switch back to oatmeal, but not yet.

By limiting my access to social media, I had lots more free time to read!

Some of the good things I couldn't pick because I'm already doing them are washing clothes in "tap cold water", composting, turning off lights, using reusable water bottles, using public transit, and spending a lot of my time volunteering for the Citizens' Climate Lobby.
