Melissa Johnston 10/04/2016 2:42 PMHave you read Marie Kondo's book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up? I've found it incredibly helpful and inspiring. I recently tackled my clothing (and learned to fold vertically!) I plan to tackle my books during the EcoChallenge. Wish me luck! I find parting with written word very difficult.
I will say, it makes me a little crazy every time she suggests to "throw away" anything that doesn't "spark joy." I usually substitute "donate to a thrift store" in my mind as I read along. I've noticed though, as I shed my belongings, that I've naturally become more selective about what I bring in to my home - making sure that each item is something I specifically want and intend to use for a long time. I can't wait to get all the way through this journey! I'm already much happier with my home.-
Lisa Appel 10/04/2016 5:02 PMI love that book and thought the same thing! I was a little horrified at the thought of all that potentially useful items going to a landfill. Great job on moving forward with the "tidying!" Its a challenge and several coworkers and I have discussed making this the "one" for 2016.
