    One thing I always do as a rule which follows what my mother did growing up, is not fill up the frig with stuff I am not going to eat.  Nothing goes to waste ever.  If you think your vege's are going bad before you have a chance to eat them all, just make a crockput full of stone soup (everything in the frig), which can be frozen.
