I watched another documentary today that was very interesting called Resistance. The documentary was on the overuse of antibiotics in our society mainly in animals but in humans as well, and the effects on humans health and the environment as a result of the overuse. The film covered points on how the medical and agricultural industries use antibiotics, and how they can potentially change the way these industries work to be less detrimental to people's health and the environment. It gave examples of other countries like Denmark who are not using mass amounts or if any antibiotics in their agriculture and medical practices. They also touched on the topic of the tragedy of the commons and how the overuse of antibiotics fits into the tragedy.

With the weather getting colder, I have made an effort to keep my windows shut and use extra blankets instead of turning on the heater or space heater.

I made a big batch of vegetarian chili that I have been eating all week. It was very good and more sustainable than chili with meat in it.

Good idea!  That is a great way to be resourceful and sustainable.

My boyfriend and I went to a local farm today that was only 5 minutes from our apartment, Lee Farms in Tualatin. We went for the pumpkin patch they had going on and picked out a couple for us to carve. It was amazing how much of a variety of pumpkins they had, you never see that many different ones in stores. They also have a large variety of fresh/frozen fruits, pies, jams and sauces. I feel really good about my choice to buy my pumpkins this year from a local farm instead of from a store.

I am in the process of purchasing my leased car(not a hybrid), that I have had for 3 years.  I have been doing research on trading it in for a hybrid vehicle.

Today, I went to seminar for veterinary hospital employees with my coworkers and boss in Portland. First of all we all carpooled together, so we took 2 cars instead of 6. We also went out to lunch where I had next to no say in what restaurant we were going to. Not to worry though I was able to find a meatless, seafood-less meal that was delicious! (Good thing I was in Portland, every restaurant almost always has at least one vegetarian option) I have almost slipped up a couple times but I've been able to stay strong. I forgot to add this at the beginning of the challenge but I have used a reusable water bottle everyday since we have started.

I almost ordered a tuna roll at lunch today, close call. I then remembered thankfully and ended up going with a vegetarian option.

Day 1: Today felt like a great start to this challenge. I committed to not eating meat and seafood for the duration of the this and it was a successful today. Thankfully I was not temped by the things I can't eat because I was working all day.
