Dorene Petersen 7/10/2020 7:11 AMI posted this message on facebook and also asked Driscolls directly on their facebook page to reconsider their plastic packaging: ACHS.edu is participating in the Plastic Free Ecochallenge for the month of July. As part of that I reached out to Driscoll's https://www.facebook.com/DriscollsBerries/ who grow wonderful organic strawberries but package them in plastic. These plastic clam shell containers now have to go in trash as there is no recycling of them here in Portland. I imagine them littering beaches worldwide. Please Driscoll's consider the alternatives. -
Paul Ventura 10/29/2016 3:56 PMI'm very pleased with how I did in the Challenge this year. I learned that there are many actions I can take everyday that don't add extra time, aren't more expensive. and aren't a drag to do. In fact, taking shorter showers allows me MORE time to do what I want; using reusable beverage containers SAVES me money; and eating organic food and spending more time exploring new trails gives me GREATER joy and LESS stress. Thank you, NWEI for providing the space and encouragement to make healthy changes. -
Paul Ventura 10/28/2016 9:45 PMThis has been an excellent challenge. To be honest, some of the actions were easy, like avoiding bottle water. Others were more of a stretch, like keeping showers short. But I'm happy with what I've accomplished and I know what I've done will continue beyond these two weeks, -
Valentina Olivadese 10/28/2016 8:36 AMThank you for inviting to the EcoChallenge, it was a great experience! :)-
Paul Ventura 10/28/2016 8:52 AMI'm so glad you participated in our first time in the Eco-Challenge. You should be proud of what you were able to do during the past two weeks. Be sure to check all of your daily actions and one-time challenges so that you don't forget any!

Lauren Groves 10/24/2016 5:01 PMDoing my best today, think it will be first day I will miss a few of my daily challenges, but I'm sick so that's OK. Naps are important.-
Lauren Groves 10/27/2016 6:08 AMthanks Paul! That made me laugh...I needed a good laugh! -
Paul Ventura 10/25/2016 3:35 PMToo bad naps aren't an action for the Eco-Challenge. Sleeping likely emits less CO2 than using your computer! In fact, TreeHugger had a post a few years ago (2010) on "What's the Carbon Footprint of Sleep?"
http://www.treehugger.com/green-food/whats-the-carbon-footprint-of-sleep.html
The author quotes someone writing in 2006 that "The 5 per cent of Britons who regularly grab less than five hours sleep utilise 16 per cent more electricity, 9 per cent more gas and consume and burn over 1.5g more fat in each 24 hours than the 6 per cent of Britons getting over nine hours in the land of nod."
In any case, enjoy your rest and recovery. You deserve it!

ashley nesbit 10/21/2016 8:36 AMI live in Wisconsin, and with the current fall weather getting cooler we pulled the last of the vegetables from the garden last night and started preparing it for the winter. Slightly sad to see it done for the year however I am already excited to start planning the changes for the next season!
