First Unitarian Church of Portland Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

This was a fun way to look at my energy consumption and make more conscious decisions about it...clearly we can all reduce our consumption if we make it a priority and that's a hopeful thing in the context of climate change.  Thanks Sherry for your persistence and inspiration.

My challenge of writing letters was a very real one for me.  I am happy with my progress and happy this was an option because system change is essential for Earth health.  I appreciate NWEI for the EcoChallenge; for creating a virtual community of individual teams and a regionalcommunity of teams that come together to inspire and encourage one another. I plan to be back with an even larger First Unitarian Church team next year!

To celebrate my aunt's 90th birthday, we have assembled lots of photos to display at the party and later include in a memory book. My cousin thought it would be neat to hang pictures from clothes pins in chicken wire frames. You can buy them pre-made. I decided to try to make my own. Found 2 pretty good wooden picture frames at the thrift store where I volunteer. Spent $2 on them and $4.29 on a small roll of chicken wire. I plan to repaint the frames and staple the chicken wire to the back. I already have the paint, so this is going to be very thrifty. I've never done this before -  we'll see how it turns out. The Eco-Challenge has been fun. I'm pleased I was asked to join by my good friend, Sherry Hall.

My challenges taught me several things:  that with commitment and intention, I can achieve my goals - even physical ones; that it's too easy for that 'dark' side of me and my character to loom up; and, that two weeks really goes by quickly.   Thank you, particularly Sherry Hall, for getting me to increase my awareness, become more mindful and live a healthier lifestyle. Best wishes to all.

Had only two meals today,  both meatless.  I also had the best Eggplant Parmesan with risotto at Bird And Bear Restsurant using my Chinook Book.  For my final letter,  I wrote Wasco County Commissioners asking them to reverse the approval of rail expansion in Mosier.  Outside  1.5 hours enjoying raking up fall leaves.

I wish I felt more optimistic as to our efforts to reduce climate change.

Did the challenge as part of a team. But it all seemed a bit superficial to me.

this was fun and made me aware of what everyone can do if they are motivated...nothing like a competition to get people moving!
